More and more often and for longer, our home is becoming our workplace. Our interior is not designed to be worked on for long periods of time, so it will have to be made suitable for this new situation. Tips for the ideal work-at-home job
- Stay fit with a standing/sitting desk. Our bodies are not made to sit all day. Working in the same work position for long periods of time is more likely to cause back, shoulder and neck pain. Adopting different working postures stimulates blood circulation and keeps you sharper and more active.
- To prevent back pain, get an ergonomic office chair. Choose an office chair that you can adjust to fit your body. Make sure the seat height, seat depth, backrest and armrest are adjustable. This prevents physical complaints and provides greater seating comfort.
- Promote concentration and productivity with good acoustics. At home, where other family members are present, you may be bothered by ambient noise. A good acoustic wall prevents distractions and provides a sense of security in the workplace. You increase your concentration and your productivity increases.
- Good lighting prevents eyestrain and poor posture. Is your workplace too dark ? Chances are you will sit closer to your screen, resulting in a hunched work posture. Or is just the light too bright or does your screen reflect ? If so, you probably suffer from tired eyes and/or a tired brain. Bright lighting from your desk lamp combined with daylight is often enough for good balance.
